The body of a 37-year-old man was early yesterday morning found lying on the roadway at Four Miles, Quarry Top, Port Kaituma with his throat slashed.
Police identified him as Steve George of Four Miles, Port Kaituma.
According to a police press release they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the man whose body was found with injuries to his head around 03:30 hrs.
The body is at the Port Kaituma morgue awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Persons in Port Kaituma told Stabroek News that on Sunday night the man was consuming alcohol with friends at a shop at Quarry Top. They were not sure what time he left the shop, but persons said he must have been under the influence of alcohol when he left. He was later found not far from the shop.
It is unclear if anyone has been detained in connection with his death.
