All Greys increased their lead at the top of the table when they crushed Airbenders 6-1 as action the John Fernandes Insurance Services Limited second division hockey tourney recommenced at the Providence National Stadium on Sunday.
All Greys, who lead the points’ standings with only six fixtures remaining, took the early lead in the fifth minute when midfielder Alan Fernandes evaded two defenders before placing his strike beyond the advancing Airbenders shot stopper.
All Greys doubled their lead in the 19th minute through a Jonathan Yearwood finish after the player latched onto a Timothy Jonas pass. Samantha Fernandes pulled one back for Airbenders after deflecting a powerful Kerensa Fernandes left-sided cross to end the first half 2-1.
With the blistering morning sun beginning to take a toll on the opposing sides, All Greys began to utilise their superior ball skills to arrest control of the fixture.
All Greys scored two more goals in quick succession through a Brennette Gordon field goal and an Alan Fernandes strike from a penalty corner that took an unfortunate deflection off a defender’s stick.
The eventual winners grabbed two more goals to complete the score line with Brian Asregado and Yearwood netting in the 60th and 65th minutes respectively.
