A fire this morning destroyed a section of the L’ Aventure Secondary School, Canal Number One, West Bank Demerara, displacing almost seven hundred school children just three days into the new school term.
The head teacher confirmed that a meeting is to take place later to put measures in place for the children and staff.
She said too that the school has electrical wiring issues. It is possible that this could have been the cause of the fire which started in the office building sometime before eight this morning.
The section which was burnt housed second form students, the home economics department and the office.
The other section which is concrete was saved.
Residents and the staff at the school praised fire-fighters for their efforts, noting that they managed to save at least half of the school.
