Kelvin Washington, the bus conductor accused of trying to steal a woman’s bag, was yesterday further remanded by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Washington, 33, of Lot 44 Princes Street, Lodge, was denied bail at his arraignment last week after the court heard that he was facing a similar charge already in court.
Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman said last week that Dawn Murray was walking on the street on August 22, when she felt a hand in her bag. She turned around and allegedly saw Washington pulling his hands out of her bag, he had said, while adding that the woman raised an alarm and a plain clothes police officer in the area at the time responded and arrested Washington.
The unrepresented Washington pleaded yesterday with Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry for bail. “I am in jail six days now, Your Worship. Please give me bail,” he said.
However, the magistrate did not grant bail and remanded him to prison until September 5.
