A woman was yesterday arraigned at court on charges of threatening and abusing her sister.
The charge read at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court stated that on Septem-ber 2, at Alberttown, Indira Persaud used abusive language to Gaitrie Persaud, causing a breach of the peace. She pleaded guilty to the charge.
She was also charged with using threatening language towards Gaitrie at the same place. She pleaded not guilty to this charge.
Prosecutor Steven Telford said that while Gaitrie was sitting on the stairs of her home with her family, Indira, who appeared to be intoxicated, approached her sister and cursed her using indecent language.
Telford said Indira also threatened to burn down her sister’s house.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry placed both parties on a bond to keep the peace pending the outcome of the matter and released Indira on her own recognisance. The matter was transferred to Court 10 for report and fixture on September 18.
