Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded to prison a Linden man accused of stealing household items valued over $400,000 from his sister.
It is alleged that on September 3, at Linden, Wincam Nedd stole articles valued $413,000 from his sister Gracine Nedd with whom he shares a home. He pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny when it was read to him in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Police Prosecutor Corporal Bharrat Mangru told the court that on the day in question Gracine secured her belongings and left the house. She was informed via telephone by a neighbour that her brother was carrying articles out of the house. Gracine hurried back to the residence where she saw her brother with her belongings in a bag.
When the magistrate asked Nedd if he had an alternative accommodation, he said “Yes, my grandmother, she lives on the Plaisance.” He was then facilitated with a phone call to his grandmother but it turned out that he had a wrong number.
He then told the court that he has another residence in the mental ward at the hospital and that the bag he was found with on the day in question contained his medication.
When the magistrate asked Nedd when last he had been treated by his doctor he said six months ago and alleged that his sister is supposed to take him to his appointments but she had not done so. He then told the court that he and his sister are the only two relatives residing in Guyana and that the others are overseas.
Nedd was remanded to prison and ordered to appear in the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
