A couple was yesterday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry over slashing a young man across his chest with a surgical blade.
It was alleged at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court that Daniel Mohamed robbed Andrew Barrington of $16,000 on August 8. It was further alleged that one week after the robbery, Nikeisha Abram, 26, of Cul-de Sac Street, North Ruimveldt, who is Mohamed’s girlfriend, took him to Barrington’s residence, where they used a surgical blade to slash him.
Barrington was present in court and showed a wound that was more than a foot long.
Mohamed, 25, of Lot 1 East La Penitence, denied an armed robbery charge that stated that he used a gun to rob Barrington, while both he and Abram pleaded not guilty to a charge of unlawful wounding.
Police Prosecutor Sergeant Vishnu Hunt objected to bail on the grounds that a weapon was used in carrying out the crime and since the defendants know the complainant they may interfere with him to avert the course of justice. Attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat made a bail application on behalf of Abrams, telling the court that Abrams only took Mohamed to Barrington’s residence but did not participate in wounding him.
However, the magistrate remanded both Mohamed and Abrams to prison until September 20.
