A 19-year-old man was yesterday remanded to prison after he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates to court answer to three charges against him alleging that he threatened and assaulted the mother of his child.
Magistrate Judy Latchman, who remanded Troy Roberts, of Lot 57 Gordon Street, Kitty, read the charges which stated that on September 7 at West Ruimveldt, he threw stones to the annoyance and endangerment of Latoya Jones.
Also, on the same day he allegedly used threatening language and assaulted Jones so as to cause actual body harm.
He pleaded not guilty to all three charges.
Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt said that Roberts hit Jones’s head against a concrete wall and threatened to shoot her after he went to her home and saw her talking to another guy.
He objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offence and the fact that Roberts knows where Jones lives. Hunt was concerned that if granted bail Roberts will attack Jones again.
When given a chance to speak, Jones said that she went to the market to purchase some items for her grandmother’s birthday and when she returned Roberts was at her home.
She said the guy she was talking to, which led to Roberts getting angry was the taxi driver who normally takes her daughter to school.
She added that after he started to hit her head against the wall, some persons from the neighbourhood went to her rescue, apprehended Roberts and took him to the police station.
Roberts tried to defend himself by alleging that Jones and the taxi driver assaulted him and the police never took action and added that he was at the moment feeling pain about his body.
Magistrate Latchman subsequently remanded him to prison until September 20, when he will appear at Court 10.
