Police this evening are investigating two separate armed robberies, one of which claimed the life of a young man.
The first incident took place at Montrose, East Coast Demerara around 8 pm. Three gunmen held a family at gunpoint but managed to evade capture after police officers arrived on the scene and fired warning shots. Stabroek News was told that reinforcements from the city raced to the scene and ranks are maintaining a presence in the area where they are still searching for the men.
The police are presently questioning the family. No one was injured during this incident and it is unclear if the bandits managed to escape with any valuables. The second incident occurred subsequently at Meten-Meer-Zorg. Reports are that six armed bandits stormed a grocery store at Masjid Street, fatally shooting Vicky Gulzar in the process. This newspaper was told that the armed men escaped with an undisclosed sum of cash.
