Lawrence Rambarran, who chopped his wife Deborah Anne Allen to death with a cutlass after an argument in 2009, was yesterday sentenced to 19 years imprisonment by Justice James Bovell-Drakes.
Rambarran, who pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of manslaughter on August 12, was sentenced after a probation report was presented to the court by Probation Officer Wesley Albert last week.
In handing down the sentence, Justice Bovell-Drakes stated that he was taking three years off of the sentence due to the fact that Rambarran had pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter.
The five years he spent incarcerated were also taken into account, Justice Bovell-Drakes added.
Thirty-eight-year-old Rambarran called ‘Tall Man’, who was represented by attorney Peter Hugh admitted to killing Allen, who he chopped about her body with a cutlass on February 15, 2009 at Oronoque, Port Kaituma, North West District. Allen succumbed to her injuries on arrival at the Port Kaituma hospital.
State Counsel Natasha Backer presented the case for the prosecution.
