The Ministry of Home Affairs is appealing to livestock owners to ensure proper supervision of their animals during the grazing period as its stray catching units impounded a total of 334 animals last month from the Georgetown, East Bank Demerara, Berbice and East Coast and West Coast Demerara areas.
This amount comprised 120 cows, 106 goats, 79 horses and 29 sheep. This total is four less than the number of animals impounded in July, a press release from the ministry said.
The Georgetown stray catching unit which operated on the East Bank, East Coast and West Coast Demerara accounted for 103 animals comprising 25 cows, 54 goats and 24 sheep. The Berbice unit, which operates on the West Coast Berbice and Corentyne areas accounted for 95 cows, 52 goats, 79 horses and five sheep.
The ministry also advises cattle owners to ensure that their animals are branded and the brand is clearly visible so as to facilitate the process of redemption.
