The accused in the theft of an iPhone was yesterday remanded to prison after she was unable to supply a current address to a city court.
“Since you don’t have an address you will be a guest of the state… there we will be able to find you when we need you” Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry told Lavern Allen, 19, who was charged with larceny.
It was alleged at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court that on September 7, at Russell Street, Charlestown, Allen stole an iPhone, valued $150,000, from Tammy Seaford.
Allen pleaded not guilty.
When the magistrate asked for her address, she answered, “I don’t know where I am living, Your Worship. I just moved to the area.”
Allen’s aunt, who was in the court at the time, subsequently said that she will be at Lot 10 Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, but the magistrate was then informed by Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt that Allen was put out from that address.
Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry then told her she needs to be at a place where she can be located for the start of her trial and she subsequently denied bail and remanded Allen to prison until September 20.
