The Petra Organization in collaboration with Courts Guyana Incorporated and Banks DIH Limited officially launched the fourth Courts Pee Wee U11 football tournament at the entity’s Main Street Office yesterday.
A cheque valued at $3,376,000 was donated to the Petra organization to facilitate the running of the event. The tournament,
which features 24 schools competing in a round-robin format, will commence on September 28th and conclude November 2.
The 24 teams will be divided into six groups with the top two from each group advancing along with the four best third place finishers to the round of sixteen. Every playing date 12 fixtures will be contested and each match up with be 20 minutes in duration.
The competing schools are defending champions Marian Academy, St. Agnes Primary, West Ruimveldt Primary, St. Margaret’s Primary, St. Sidwell’s Primary, Tucville Primary, South Ruimveldt Primary, North Georgetown Primary, Ketley Primary, St. Gabriel’s Primary. F.E. Pollard Primary, Enterprise Primary, St. Pius Primary, Sophia Primary, Success Primary, Redeemer Primary, New Guyana Primary, St. Angela’s Primary, Stella Maris Primary, St. Winifred’s Primary, Winfer Garden Primary, J.E. Burnham Primary, Green Acres Primary and East Ruimveldt Primary.
Managing Director of Courts Guyana Inc. Clyde de Haas, during the feature address said: “I am pleased to be standing here once again for the launch of the fourth edition of the tournament. Our aim and motto at Courts is to bring value home and in this tournament we hope bring sportsmanship and development at the grassroots level home.
“Thanks must extended to Petra and partners Banks DIH for helping to continue develop the sport at the grassroots level,” added de Haas
Banks DIH Limited Public Relations Officer (PRO) Troy Peters said that the company was:”Extremely pleased to partner with Courts and the Petra organization. Banks will be sponsoring the event under the Malta Supreme Brand. We see this as a developmental plan and we expect the children to play smart and hard. Good luck to all the schools and let this best team.”
Allison Rawlins, Physical Education officer of the Ministry of Education said: “The ministry always supports activities like these that give children the opportunity to nurture and display their talents. I wish all the teams’ success and thank the sponsors for continuing to support the event.”
Petra Co-Director Troy Mendonca during a brief comment thanked the sponsors once again for sponsoring event while stating that in order for football development to occur, a grassroots approach must be taken.
“Petra’s commitment to football in this country is based at the grassroots level and the base of the football pyramid is grassroots. We need to ensure that development at this level is continued,” added Mendonca.
