The Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) yesterday named a 24-man squad for the upcoming Pepsi Senior Inter-County limited overs competition which is scheduled to commence on September 21 with the preliminary matches played at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda
Following two trials among three teams led by Leon Johnson, Steven Jacobs and Christopher Barnwell held on September 5 and 6 at the GCC ground, the selectors further identified 24 cricketers who will go through a fitness test and training, eventually narrowing the current 24 to a possible 14
that will represent Demerara in the highly anticipated competition.
Players such as Robin Bacchus, Trevon Griffith, Christopher Barnwell, Shemroy Barrington, Paul Wintz, Andre Stoll and Tagenarine Chanderpaul are a few of the notable young players selected while the veteran pair of Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who were not a part of the trial matches due to personal and professional commitments, were also included.
The selected players are asked to report to coach Orin Bailey at the GCC ground for the fitness test on Monday. The sessions will conducted under the watchful eye of the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) Chairman of National Selector, Rayon Griffith.
The first session commences at 7:00am and the second session starts at 13:00hrs.
