Dear Editor,
September 14, 2013 will make three years since the brutal slaying of Sheema Mangar who was employed at the time of her death at the Demerara Bank Ltd. Up to this day the killer remains at large, which does not inspire much confidence in Home Affairs Minister Rohee and the way in which the police have conducted their investigations.
As citizens we are all extremely vulnerable; nobody knows who is next to be brutally murdered or hit down and left to die on the streets like some stray dog.
The underlying factor remains that life has become dirt cheap in Guyana and that for a cell phone Sheema Mangar was cruelly crushed to death; this is very revolting. And although for weeks people expressed their disgust at the gruesome manner in which she was killed and the reluctance of the police to perform their duty for which they are paid by the citizens of this country and have justice served, three years later nothing has happened. This certainly must add to the frustration and agony her parents and family members are experiencing.
Is this the record that Minister Rohee can feel proud of as he pursues his dream of one day becoming President of Guyana? As Minister of Home Affairs he has shown that he has absolutely no care for the safety and welfare of the Guyanese nation. So many people have been brutally murdered and their cases have ended up in the cold case cabinet.
Sheema Mangar’s dreams to be a certified accountant all came to an abrupt end on that fateful afternoon of September 14, 2010. Her death is a loss to our country and our already small and diminishing population.
Myself and family remain steadfast in our support of and solidarity with Sheema Mangar’s family and relatives in their quest for justice.
Yours faithfully,
Desmond Alli
