Scotiabank is celebrating 45 years of service in Guyana with a roster of activities including a radio quiz on Scotiabank Money Minute which will be aired weekdays starting Monday.
The quiz will be aired on 98.1 Hot FM. This and other customer appreciation events will be held during the week of September 23, the bank said in a press release. It also hosted a jingle competition for employees, which was won by the Carmichael Street branch, with the Credit Risk and Collections Departments placing second. The winning jingle will be aired during the month and the prizes will be used for a charitable project under Scotiabank’s Bright Future Global Philanthropic Programme. “We have achieved another great milestone – thanks to our loyal customers and employees who are committed to helping our customers become financially better off,” Country Manager Amanda St Aubyn said. “While we are happy to celebrate our great achievements in Guyana over the past 45 years, we are also excited about what the future holds for us, as the bank continues to invest resources to better meet the needs of our customers,” she said.
Scotiabank Guyana was established in 1968 and it is a branch of the Bank of Nova Scotia headquartered in Toronto, Canada. The first branch was located at Robb and Hinck streets, Georgetown. Today the main branch is located in Carmichael Street with branches at Robb Street, in Parika, New Amsterdam and Bartica.
“Scotiabank in Guyana continues to show consistent growth in profitability, achieving double-digits over the past few years. By focusing on developing its own technology, the bank is driving its strategy for growth,” the press release said. Over the past 45 years in Guyana it has recorded a number of other accomplishments including being the first bank to introduce a local currency credit card; first bank to introduce access at ABM’s for international cards; the first bank to offer a free mobile banking app, among others undertakings.
Today, Scotiabank remains the only major multinational bank operating in Guyana. It employs more than 175 persons.
