Sports Plus on behalf of their proprietor and sports administrator Colin Baker at a simple presentation ceremony at their Quamina Street location donated 10 size five footballs to the recently founded Little Diva Flames FC.
The balls which are valued $50,000 were presented by Store Manager Romona Arthur on behalf of the overseas Baker.
Arthur during an invited comment stated that the company was committed to the development of sports and is pleased to be associated with the development of the female side of the football.
President of the Little Diva Flames Lawrence ‘Sparrow’ Griffith stated he was grateful to Sports Plus for their generosity and is looking forward to many other sponsors coming on board.
“I think this is a stepping stone for excellence. I want my club to be a role model and a club that everybody will be proud of” added Griffith. He further stated that the players will be given the opportunity to gain football scholarships once they are academically qualified and tactically and technically sound on the field. He said that the club will be supplying the prerequisite in making this a reality and that the players will have to do the rest.
The club was officially launched on Sunday at the African Cultural and Development Association (ACDA) building, Thomas Lands.
The election of the club’s office bearers will be done on September 28 at the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) office in Section K Campbellville at 16:00 hrs. The constitution and rules of the club will also be ratified on that date.
The club intends to commence training on October 12 at a venue to be named. The Ministry of Education Ground on Carifesta Avenue has been identified as one of the possible grounds.
