Magistrate Fabayo Azore granted $100,000 bail to a Mahaica man charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm on another after he pleaded not guilty when he yesterday appeared in court.
It is alleged that on Saturday, at Bel Air Village, 22-year-old David Gobin of Lot 33 Belmont, Mahaica unlawfully wounded Deonauth Persaud. He pleaded not guilty to the charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm when it was read to him in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Prosecutor Ramsahoye Rambajue said that the virtual complainant and the defendant are known to each other; however, they are not friends. He told the court that on Saturday, September 14, Persaud went to ‘Big G’, a hang out spot in Bel Air Village and purchased a bottle of vodka. When he was finished consuming the beverage, he left the shop and while he was on his way home, Gobin allegedly followed him, picked up a brick and pelted him to the left side of his face. Persaud then fell unconscious and was taken to the hospital by his brother.
The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the accused might tamper with the witness and that he might not return for trial.
However, Gobin was subsequently granted bail and ordered to return to court on October 3.
