The construction of the Haag Bosch landfill site is about 65% complete and Minister within the Local Government Ministry Norman Whittaker says this reality is alarming because the works are supposed to be completed by December 31st.
Speaking to reporters during a press conference yesterday, Whittaker said that the nature of the remaining work is substantial, raising concerns about whether or not the work will be finished in time.
Despite these concerns, however, he told reporters that the ministry is working closely with the contractor tasked with building and operating the site, BK International, to meet the deadline. Additionally, complaints about foul odour emanating from the landfill are being looked at, along with procedures relating to the proper covering and compacting of garbage. Members of the Municipal Service Department, in collaboration with ministry operatives, will be working to minister on these and other activities taking place at the site.
Whittaker also shared that a revised of list of equipment, a revised list of officers, and a list of performance indicators have all been looked at as the ministry moves to improve the quality of service provided by the site, as well as improve their efficiency.
