A 25-year-old man was yesterday granted his pre-trial liberty in the sum of $20,000 when he appeared at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Rondell Weaver to answer charges relating to domestic violence.
The court heard that on September 19, Regan Garrett of Number 23 Village, West Coast Berbice assaulted and threatened his reputed wife, Kamaldai Seulall, 29.
Garrett, a father of four pleaded not guilty to the charges and is scheduled to return to court on October 28 for trial.
Reports are that the man, who habitually abused the woman, placed a cutlass to her neck and threatened to kill her. He was said to be under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The woman, fed up with the constant abuse, visited the Probation Department and reported the matter. The police were called in and the man was arrested.
Reports are that he had threatened her with a knife on a previous occasion and was charged and remanded to prison.
She had already moved out of the house by the time he was released but “he went and look for me and begged me to return. My [relatives] told me to give him another chance.”
