A 28-year-old, Meadow Bank man was yesterday sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined $48,000 after he was found guilty of being in possession of narcotics.
George Duncan, a pork knocker, of Lot 17 Caines Street, Meadow Bank, was found guilty by Magistrate Judy Latchman at the George-town Magistrates’ Court on September 19 of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Magistrate Latchman considered the quantum of drugs involved and the mitigating factors in handing down her sentence.
On August 15, in his first court appearance before Magistrate Ann McLennan, he pleaded not guilty to the offence. The particulars of the case read that acting on information received, the police stopped and searched the accused during which 30 grammes of cannabis were found in his possession.
Duncan was unrepresented by counsel.
