Hakeem Haymer is facing a simple larceny charge after being identified to police by the woman who says he was the man who snatched her chain.
Police say that on September 14, at Water Street, Haymer stole a gold chain and pendant, valued $140,000, from Cynthia Latchman.
Haymer, 22, a miner, of Lot 20 Joseph Pollydore Street, Lodge, pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared yesterday in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Fabayo Azore. Prosecutor Bharrat Mangru told the court Latchman was walking along Water Street in the vicinity of Stabroek Market when Haymer snatch her chain and made good his escape.
On September 20, Mangru added, Haymer was identified to police officers by Latchman and he was arrested and charged.
Haymer was refused bail until his next court date, which is October 7.
