Miner Albert Richards, who police allege was found with 35 grammes of cannabis at Ekereku, Cuyuni, was yesterday remanded to prison on a drug trafficking charge.
It is the police’s case that on September 23, Richards, 41, had the cannabis in his possession in a room that he was staying in at the time the police carried out a search on it.
Police Prosecutor Bharrat Mangru informed Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday that the police, acting on information received, carried out a search on the room Richards was occupying and found the cannabis in a pair of jeans that belonged to Richards.
Richards was represented by defence counsel Patrice Henry, who told the court that the drug was not found on his client. He said that while his client owns the building where the drug was found, he had no knowledge of it. “The drug was not on my client,” Henry said.
Magistrate Azore refused bail and remanded Roberts to prison until October 4.
