The PPP is focused on drafting a ‘Framework of Action’ to develop party structures and identify more proactive ways of presenting issues of concern to the nation, especially as it prepares for the upcoming Local Government Elections.
In a press release, the party said it took this decision at its first central committee meeting held outside of Georgetown, at Enmore, East Coast Demerara on Saturday.
In the light of the imminent elections, the party is focused on getting into election mode and will be intensifying work on community outreaches involving party members and activists. Hundreds of community and face-to-face meetings will be held countrywide “aimed at taking the party to the people and trying to find solutions to problems on the ground.”
The PPP/C also took a decision to develop a ‘Framework of Action’ which takes into account the Central Committee Report, Congress workshops and the political declaration that was adopted at the recently-held PPP Congress. Particular attention was also given to strengthening the party both at the district and regional levels. The meeting also determined that more robust action was needed to arrest the spiralling crime situation.
In addition, the party discussed plans to observe its 21st anniversary and the assumption of the PPP/C to the seat of government. Several activities are being planned countrywide including three big rallies in Essequibo, Demerara and Berbice.
At the close of the meeting, the PPP/C central committee conducted its first house-to-house outreach exercise in Enmore and its adjoining villages.
