Amelia’s Ward Jets blew out Block 22 Flames 67-48 when the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA)/Trophy Stall championships continued at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court on Saturday. Shane Webster and Dennis Niles top scored for the victors with 11 and nine points respectively while Kerwin Williams registered the game-high 14 points for the losers. Aubrey Johnson contributed 10 points.
Leading the first quarter by a 17-14 margin, the Jets would solidify their position as they registered a whopping 24 points in the period while restricting the Flames to a paltry two points to go into the half leading 41-16.
Down 25 points going into the third quarter, the Flames would register 16 points while holding the Jets to simply five points to reduce the deficit somewhat 46-32 going into the final quarter. However the Jets would respond emphatically in the final period as they outscored the Flames 21-16 to seal the comfortable win.
In the other matchup, Bankers Trust Falcons defeated the Kashif and Shanghai Kings 47-42. Lawrence DaCosta and Leonard Caleb led the winning side with 17 and 12 points correspondingly. Akeil Primo netted 14 points in a losing effort while Omalli Thompson and Orin Rose contributed eight points apiece. Tied at the half 23-23 following a 10-6 opening period in favour of the Falcons, Kings outscored the Falcons 15-10 to go into the fourth leading 38-33. The Falcons however would battle back in the final quarter, outscoring the Kings 14-4 to complete the victory. Action continues tomorrow at the same venue with two fixtures. The feature showdown at 21:00hrs will see the Kashif and Shanghai Kings facing Half Mile Bulls while in the opening matchup at 19:00hrs, Retrieve Raiders will lock horns with Wismar Pistons.
