The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has planned a roster of activities across the countrywide as part of observances for its 21st anniversary.
In a press release, the party said a number of activities have been planned for all 10 administrative regions to recognise past achievements and to assess future plans. The major activities will be held on October 5 at the University of Guyana’s campus at Tain, Berbice. This session is scheduled to start at 4pm. Meetings will also be held at the Lusignan tarmac on October 6 at 4.30pm and in Essequibo at the Anna Regina car park on October 12 from 4pm.
The party noted that it has achieved many goals since it was democratically elected in 1992. The PPP government has never wavered from its commitment to rebuild, restore and advance the livelihood of citizens though it recognises that the job of nation-building is never complete.
“However, gradually through focused determination, strategic planning and investments, we have moved to a point where in 2013 we are using more of our GDP back into the nation’s economy and infrastructure,” it said. It added that despite the global economic downturn Guyana’s economy remains stable and its growth projection figures are among the highest in South America and the Caribbean.
The party said its vision remains directed towards creating an environment where more opportunities are available for citizens and where they will also directly benefit from projects such as the Amaila Falls Hydro Power Project, the speciality hospital, the expansion of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, a deep water harbour in Berbice, paving the road from Lethem to Linden and building a new bridge across the Demerara River.
