ST.GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC- Grenada has withdrawn from the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s Under-20 Finals scheduled for Jamaica from the 18th to 27th of October.
President of the Grenada Football Association (GFA) Cheney Joseph has confirmed that the withdrawal of the national was due to a lack of financial commitment.
“It is very unfortunate that just at a time when we are promoting women’s football the support is not forthcoming,” Joseph told GrenadaSports.
“I can confirm this information and tell you that the executive chose not to go into further expense at this time”.
The estimated cost of the team’s participation was US 30,000 dollars.
Grenada finished runners-up to hosts Suriname in the CFU qualifying round in July.
They were drawn in Group A, along with Anguilla, Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago while Group B will feature the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, St.Kitts and Nevis and Suriname.
The top two teams will be CFU’s official representatives to the CONCACAF finals scheduled for the Cayman Islands, January 9-19.
