A 14-year-old student of the South Ruimveldt Secondary School was stabbed with a scissors by a schoolmate yesterday after he refused to give him $20.
Junior Simon, a Third Form student, was stabbed in his chest by a student from a higher class after he refused to give him the money. Simon was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was said to be in a stable condition up to press time.
It is unclear if the suspect was taken into custody.
Simon’s uncle told Stabroek News that his family learnt about the attack nearly an hour after it occurred. “This thing happened since 9:30 and his mother get the call about 10:30.
Apparently this boy asked him for money and he said that he don’t have any and some sort of pushing take place and then the guy just took out a scissors and stabbed him in his chest. He told us that he held on to the wound and the blood just keep coming out,” the man recalled.
Simon’s family was upset with the approach of the staff at the school in addressing the attack. “Imagine they took a piece of scotch tape and put it over the wound and lef it. They trying to shield the boy. Look wah time this thing happen and tek so long to call,” the uncle added.
