KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC-West Indies Women head coach Sherwin Campbell has expressed disappointment with the batting performance of his team on the eve of their home series against New Zealand.
Campbell was referring to a poor batting display by the Caribbean women in a 50 over practice match against Jamaica’s Under-17 boys’ team on Wednesday.
The West Indies Women’s team was bowled out for 65 in 34 overs and was asked to bat again to complement the full 50 overs.
“Most of the players got themselves out, and it’s something we have to talk about,” said Campbell.
“There were too many soft dismissals and we would have to address that because players need to bat as long as possible in this format”.
Anisa Mohammed scored most runs for the West Indies Women’s team with 23. Only two other players reached double figures — Deandra Dottin (15) and Stafanie Taylor (12).
Campbell says he was disappointed with the failure of the players to apply themselves but noted that they were playing a male team.
“The batters didn’t get too much out of the game, but I am sure they will get better” said Campbell.
He said the players have two more days to improve on the weak areas before the Jamaica leg of the series begins.
West Indies Women will face New Zealand in three One-Day International at Sabina Park on October 6, 8 and 10 before travelling to Barbados to take on England and New Zealand in the tri-nation Twenty20 Series from October 14 to 26.
“New Zealand is a good team as they have been ranked in the top four in women’s cricket for the past five years.” He added.
