PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC– A fund has been launched here to assist Trinidad and Tobago footballer Akim Adams who suffered a massive heart attack in Hungary last week.
The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) says the fund is to assist in the rehabilitation of Adams who remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Városmajori Heart Clinic in Hungary.
The 22-year old Adams, who plays for Ferencvárosi FC, has been fitted with a mechanical heart, and is awaiting a heart transplant. “We came into this with the singular purpose of preparing the national team,” stated TTFA president Raymond Tim Kee.
“But due to the unfortunate occurrence that occurred last week, it is now of dual purpose.”
Heart of a Warrior fund was launched in Port of Spain Thursday ahead of an international friendly between the Soca Warriors and New Zealand to be played at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on October 15th.
50 dollars from every paying fan in a special $125 section of the covered stand will go to the fund as well as monies raise from a Heart of a Warrior T-shirt sale in support of the ailing footballer.
“This young man (Adams)… I think his football playing days are over,” Tim Kee declared.
“So, what next (for him)”.
Adams has received tremendous support in Hungary from his club and over 250 persons have donated blood to his cause.
All top division clubs have also worn his name on their jerseys and scarves.
