After two weekends of scintillating open air amateur boxing in Linden and Georgetown which delivered knockout punches to the hundreds of patrons, the ‘Mackeson Fight Night’ card is scheduled to ignite the appetite of boxing fans in the Ancient County tonight.
Hundred of boxing fans are expected to converge at the third and final Fight Night event which boxes off at 20:00hrs at the New Amsterdam Stelling to witness 10 punch filled bouts and crowning of the four champions in the lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight and middleweight divisions.
Each bout will last three rounds, and according to president of the Guyana Boxing Association, Steve Ninvalle, the top three pugilists in each division will be awarded with vouchers.
Ninvalle mentioned at the tournament’s launch two weeks ago that the boxers would be “handsomely rewarded.”
Technical Director of GBA, Terrence Poole had also informed that the event marked the first time that the association has sanctioned amateur boxing that promised fistic furies in the street.
The competition is being held under the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) rules and all technical boxing rules apply. The action-packed Mackeson Fight Night will feature the cream of the nation’s Simon Pures as well as rookie boxers looking to spring upsets.
Stephon Gouveia (lightweight), Bert Braithwaite (welterweight) and Marvin Ageday (middleweight) are all unbeaten in the tournament so far.
