A nine-year-old No 64 Village Corentyne boy was yesterday crushed to death after falling from a moving tractor in the No 64 back lands.
The boy Rocky (only name given) was pronounced dead on arrival at the Skeldon hospital. He sustained injuries to his hands, head and face.
Stabroek News understands that around 1 pm yesterday afternoon the lad was assisting his grandfather, Harry Dharmchand, a rice farmer who was ploughing a field.
According to a source, the grandfather said that the breeze was strong and blew the child off the tractor, as a result of which he was run over.
The grandfather is currently at the Springlands police station assisting with investigations.
Yesterday, the boy was celebrating his birthday.
