BK Western Tigers defeated Beacons FC 3-0 when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Players Cup group stage concluded at the Tucville Community ground on Saturday.
Orvin Milton opened the scoring in the fifth minute for the West Ruimveldt side in the most fortuitous of fashion.
Lurking inside the 18-yard area, Milton would intercept the ball after it comically bounced over the hands of Beacons custodian Linden Gill to smash home into an open net unchallenged.
Hubert Pedro would double their advantage in the 26th minute as he collected a flat right sided cross from Darren Benjamin to finish unmarked inside the penalty area with a powerful right footed strike.
The score line would be completed in the second period as substitute Darren Harris etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 64th minute. Racing down the centre of the field, Harris would receive a Shamar Wilson right sided pass inside the 18 yard area to score into the empty net.
Victorious coach, Calvin Allen during an invited comment said:”I wanted to give some young players a chance as rested some of our key players. All in all it was a good outing and good for us in a sense of building a team.
“The play wasn’t pretty but it gave us the opportunity to try out new things. Fortunately it went well,” added Allen.
In the opening fixture, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) edged Houston Stars 1-0 through a Joel Crandon 18th minute strike.
Subsequent to the conclusion of the opening fixture, the random knockout draw for the quarterfinal round which begins on Wednesday at the same venue was conducted.
The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) was drawn against Camptown FC while Santos FC will oppose Fruta Conquerors. In the final two matches Riddim Squad FC will tackle the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) and Alpha United will do battle with Western Tigers.
