Jeffrey Jones will be spending the next 18 months in jail after biting another man’s nose during a drink-fuelled altercation.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry handed down the sentence at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where Jones, 34, of Puruni, Upper Mazaruni River, Essequibo, yesterday pleaded guilty to unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm on Dallie Claude at Puruni, on October 4.
Prosecutor Bharat Mangru said that on the day of the altercation, Claude went to Jones’ home and they were drinking vodka.
He said that after they consumed all of the vodka, Jones ordered Claude to purchase more. Claude, however, refused and an argument ensued, which led to a scuffle and ended in Jones biting Claude’s nose.
Claude, Mangru said, has to undergo a surgery to repair the injuries he sustained as a result of the attack.
