The East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB) and the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) last night issued a joint statement stating that they do not recognize the Demerara Cricket Board headed by Raj Singh.
“The East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB) and the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) wish to state categorically that there is no Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) in place therefore we do not recognize the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) which Raj Singh purports to head,” the two cricket associations stated in their joint communiqué.
“We reiterate that in January 2013 Madame Justice Diane Insanally, reinforcing an earlier injunction by Justice Bovell-Drakes, issued an order preventing the holding of elections of the DCB on the 25th January 2013 or any other date,” stated the two associations in the release adding that despite that order persons unknown to the East Coast Cricket Board and the Georgetown Cricket Assoc-iation, two major constituent members of the DCB, went ahead and reportedly held the annual general meeting and elections of office bearers.
“Raj Singh claims that he is the president of the DCB but to this date cannot disclose the purported members of his committee because of concern for the consequences of pending court matters,” the release stated.
According to the joint release, the committees of the “ECCB and the GCA are properly constituted bodies and, in keeping with the structure of Demerara Cricket, have the sole requisite authority for cricket in our areas.”
The release stated that the two associations were eagerly looking forward to a resolution of the cricket turmoil through the Parliamentary process.
