(Jamaica Observer) KINGSTON, Jamaica — The United States defeated the Reggae Boyz 2-0 in Kansas City tonight to kill all hopes of Jamaica reaching the Brazil 2014 World Cup finals.
Both teams were tied nil all after an evenly contested first stanza.
But in the 77th minute, the US pushing for the opener, capitalized on poor defending by the Boyz, with Jozy Altidore knocking one pass goalkeeper Duwayne Kerr.
And within four minutes the US were back again to double their tally when Graham Zusi scored in the 81st minute.
The US had already qualified for Brazil 2014, heading the CONCACAF table with 16 points while Jamaica sit at the bottom with a mere four points.
Jamaica would have had to win today’s game to have a chance for the fourth-place play-off spot, which would pit that team against the champions of Oceania for an additional spot for CONCACAF at the Brazil 2014 World Cup Finals.
