Andre Gustav, found guilty of supplying an American drug mule with four kilogrammes of cocaine for drug trafficking, will be spending the next five years in jail.
Magistrate Ann McLennan handed down the five-year jail sentence and an $11M fine to Gustav after a lengthy trial at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It was alleged that on July 4, Gustav had in his possession 4.130kilos of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Five witnesses testified in the case, which was led by Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) prosecutor Oswald Massiah.
Gustav, 24, of Freddie Street, Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara, was originally charged alongside convicted American drug mule Brianna Rodney, who was sentenced to four years in jail after she confessed to having over 4.130 kilos of cocaine in her possession.
The illegal substance was found concealed in a false bottom of the woman’s suitcase. She was at the time an outgoing passenger at the CJIA destined for the United States.
Gustav was arrested on July 3 along with Rodney and was alleged to have been her co-conspirator.
When he made his initial appearance in court after Rodney confessed to the crime and named him as the supplier, he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Gustav currently faces another drug charge which alleged on July 4, he also supplied Canada drug mule Johal Magnet with 2.615 kilos of cocaine, and he is yet to know his fate for this matter.
