A 23-year-old cattle farmer of Number 40 Village, West Coast Berbice drowned when he fell off his horse while crossing the main canal around 1 pm on Friday.
Peter Pestano was said to be rounding up his stocks when the horse apparently “bucked,” causing him to fall. His worker was on the other side of the canal and looked on helplessly.
The worker telephoned relatives who contacted the police and immediately launched a search. Pestano’s older brother managed to retrieve his body about one hour later. Police from the Weldaad Station arrived after the body was recovered and conducted investigations.
Pestano’s father, Edward Pestano told this newspaper last evening that his son was a “cowboy. He gave up his education to rear cattle.”
Pestano’s body is at the Anthony’s Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
