MUMBAI, India, CMC- West Indies will play India in two test matches at Eden Gardens in Kolkata and the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the Indian Cricket Board announced yesterday.
The decision was taken during the BCCI’s tour programme and fixtures committee meeting in Mumbai. While Eden Gardens will host the first Test from November 6 to 10, Sachin Tendulkar’s farewell Test will be played at his home ground at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from November 14 to 18.
“Tendulkar had requested that the 200th Test match should be given to Mumbai, so that his mother could also watch the match. The BCCI president and BCCI thought about it and accepted it,” said Rajiv Shukla head of the BCCI’s Programmes and Fixtures committee.
“Keeping that sentiment in mind, it has been allocated to Wankhede stadium in Mumbai (scheduled from November 14-18)”. The first two ODIs of the tour will be played at Kochi (November 21) and Visakhapatnam (November 24), but Baroda or Kanpur will stage the last match of the series on November 27. Barabati Stadium in Cuttack will host the West Indies’ preparations prior to the series, including a three-day game to be played from October 31 to November 2.
