The revival of the Arawak dialect in Guyana was examined at a recently-concluded meeting between Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana, Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr. Roger Luncheon reported on Thursday.
The meeting, which was held in French Guiana, saw Guyana represented by a delegation from the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, Luncheon said at his weekly post-Cabinet media briefing at the Office of the President, according to the Government Information Agency (GINA).
The discourse at the meeting centered on the three countries’ respective efforts at the language revival, including their effort at the teaching of the language and, preparation of work books.
GINA noted that just recently the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs launched the Arawak Language Project, in Capoey, Region Two, which focuses on educating children, ages 4 to 10 years, in the village, in the Arawak dialect. The project, launched on September 16, has a 10-month duration.
