Just months after being released on bail on a charge of narcotics possession, Troy Nedd was back before the court yesterday facing a similar charge.
Nedd, a fish vendor, of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara was yesterday arraigned on a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, after allegedly being held with 50 grammes of cannabis.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, who refused to release him on bail.
Prosecutor Bharrat Mangru said that on September 21, at Georgetown, police ranks were on a patrol when they observed Nedd acting suspiciously. When he was approached by police ranks, he dropped the black plastic bag he had in his hand and began to run.
Mangru said that police ranks then picked up the bag and chased after Nedd. He was caught and the bag was searched and leaves seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were discovered. Nedd was subsequently arrested.
Nedd was remanded to prison until November 14, when the case will be called again.
Nedd had been previously charged in June 10 with possession of 8 ½ grammes of cannabis. He had been granted $50,000 bail at his arraignment.
