A man was struck down by a truck and died on the spot at the Rupert Craig Highway, in Georgetown yesterday afternoon.
He was identified as Stanley Roach and his body is currently at the Lyken Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem examination, which is scheduled to be conducted shortly. Family members were still to identify his body up to press time yesterday.
According to eyewitnesses, Roach was standing on the shoulder of the southern carriageway between Sheriff Street and the Russian Embassy turn when the driver of the truck reversed and ran over him. They said that his head was crushed.
It was alleged by eyewitnesses that the driver of the truck was wearing headphones at the time and they suspected that he was not aware of the man standing on the shoulder of the road.
Sources said the driver of the truck has been taken into police custody to assist with investigations.
