A man lost a hand yesterday in a three-vehicle smash-up which occurred in Number 28 Village, West Coast Berbice at around 18:30 hrs.
Relatives of 28-years-old Travis Semple last night confirmed that his right hand was severed when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car.
According to reports, Semple and his friend, 28-year-old Abocy Lynch, were travelling east along the Highway in Number 28 Village on a motorcycle when it ran into the car.
Stabroek News understands that the car which Semple struck then lost control and veered into another car, injuring the occupants of both vehicles.
Because of the severity of their injuries, Semple and Lynch were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital for treatment. Aside from his severed hand, one of Semple’s legs was broken in several places and he also sustained head injuries.
Lynch was also seriously injured but relatives who gathered at the hospital last evening said that he was well enough to respond to questions. The two men were reportedly heading home.
Also injured were 39-year old Yonette Beckles who sustained injuries to the chest, 26-year-old Mariska Scottva, and 58-year-old Lourin Greyham, all from New Amsterdam. They were taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital for treatment.
Thirty-three-year-old Nebar Singh of Bath Settlement, as well as an 18-month-old infant were also injured in the smash-up and they were taken to the Mahaicony Hospital for treatment.
