(Trinidad Guardian) A Point Fortin father of six was shot dead early yesterday as he slept with his two sons. Police said Selwyn James Fraser, 55, was asleep with his sons—twoyear- old Jaheem and one-yearold Jeremiah—when a man prised open the louvres of their bedroom window and shot him once in the head. Investigators said around 7.15 am, Fraser’s wife, Cathy Figaro, 33, returned home from work in San Fernando to find her husband dead in bed.
Point Fortin police, supervised by ASP Deonarine Basdeo and Insp Jagroop, visited the family’s home on George Road, Mahaica, and found Fraser had been shot through the left side of his face with a .38 revolver. His killing took the murder toll to 311 for the year. A distraught Figaro said her husband’s arms remained wrapped around Jaheem, who was still asleep. “When I came home this morning, I saw the gate open and when I looked I saw four louvres open which we do not open at all.
“I just put down my bag and I walked to the louvres and I called out Selwyn and I realised he was not responding. “I looked and I was not seeing the baby and when I looked again I saw my two-year-old lying underneath Selwyn and hugging up. He was lying face down on his belly and I thought he had died too, and that is when I start bawling. I could not see the baby either,” Figaro said.
She said she ran to a neighbour’s home for help and it was only when the neighbour went to her apartment that Jaheem was awakened and Jeremiah was crying near the door. She said the children were now staying with relatives as they were too traumatised after seeing their father’s body. Although there were no arrests up to late yesterday investigators said they were working on several leads.
