Seven persons were left homeless yesterday after a fire razed their Castello Housing Scheme house.
The fire started around 14:00 hrs yesterday afternoon and firefighters were able to keep it from engulfing the entire building but by the time the blaze was quelled the entire top part of the two-flat building was gutted, while the bottom flat suffered serious water damage.
Although firefighters had determined that the fire started in a room in the centre of the top flat, up to last evening they had not determined the cause of the blaze. Relatives of the razed building’s inhabitants though, were convinced that the fire was intentionally set.
One person said that the building has been at the centre of a family dispute.
One relative said that a decision was taken by the building’s power of attorney to put it up for sale earlier this month.
The house did not have an electricity supply and this has further buttressed the view that arson was involved. The building was insured.
