A pork knocker, accused of assaulting his uncle, was released on bail yesterday after denying the charge at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
According to police, Harold Fredericks was arrested after a report was made by his uncle, Terrence West, that Fredericks had lashed him several times on his shoulder with a wood. The report stated that on October 19, at 2453 North Ruimveldt, West went into his yard and was abused by his nephew’s girlfriend, who called him by a derogatory term and told him that he “like to talk name” and he “should drop down and dead.”
West then approached Fredericks about the woman’s behaviour, resulting in an argument which ended in the accused allegedly rushing into the house and grabbing a wood that he used to hit West several times on his left shoulder.
Fredericks, however, denied the charge when it was read to him. He shouted from the prisoner’s dock that his uncle did not want him and his girlfriend to live together and started creating trouble.
Fredericks also told the court that he was a single parent and had no one to care for his son.
Magistrate, Fabayo Azore asked West if he would continue the matter and he replied: “I just need this eye-pass to stop, so yes.”
The magistrate subsequently placed both men on a bond to keep the peace until the determination of the case, while she set bail for Fredericks at $10,000 bail and adjourned the case until November 5.
