Bankers at Scotiabank’s Robb Street branch are hosting their annual cake sale on Saturday in aid of programmes aimed at eradicating breast cancer.
The cake sale, organised under Scotiabank’s philanthropic Bright Future Programme, has been its main cause for over 12 years, with each succeeding year achieving a new milestone in funds raised, a press release said. Last year, employees gave 150 volunteer hours towards the event, which generated about $1.5M for the Periwinkle Club and the Avon Community Help Fund. The branch also received matching funds via the Bright Future Programme, which seeks to channel money and employee volunteer hours towards community initiatives in the areas of health, education, sports and social wellbeing that benefit children and the under privileged.
Scotiabankers from other branches support their colleagues from the Robb Street branch by contributing cakes and pastries. This year, the bank aims to beat its $1.5M record to make an even greater contribution to help those affected by cancer.
Branch Manager Brian Hackett is thanking everyone in advance for their support and contributions to making the event a success again this year, the release said.
The sale will be held in front of the Robb Street branch from 7.30am to 3pm.
