Football fans are in for a treat today when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) hosts the grand finale of its Players Cup at the Georgetown Football club ground in Bourda.
National heavyweights and undisputed club champions Alpha ‘the Hammer’ United are opposing the always unpredictable Santos FC in a rematch of the earlier Namilco One Love Football Festival 3-1 final.
Undefeated and simply dominant throughout the year, Alpha will attempt to continue their winning ways as they look to their feared foursome of Anthony Abrams, Gregory Richardson, Dwight Peters and Andrew Murray Jr. to power them to another title come kick-off time.
Hoping to reverse their fortunes against the ‘Hammers’, Santos will require a disciplined and collective performance led by the likes of Jermain Fraser, Michael Pedro and Odel Williams if victory is to be achieved when opening whistle sounds.
Alpha United coach Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover in an invited comment said “Preparation has been coming good for the longest while and we are expecting a victory. Complacency and overconfidence is the biggest obstacle and [we] will guard against that.”
“We will go out there and be focused and try to achieve the win. We have been working hard and from the work we have put in, we expect to come out victorious,” he added.
Dwain Babb, coach of the Santos unit, in a pre-match comment said, “I can’t complain, preparation has been coming good. You can’t run away from it, they are the best team in the country and in order to beat them, you have to use strategy.”
“If you match us player to player against them, they are the better team. However, I am expecting a victory however it come. We just have to be focused and disciplined,” Bobb said.
In the third place match-up at 6.30pm, Riddim Squad FC and their band of brothers, the Hopes, the Ramsays and the Stewarts will oppose a determined Camptown side and their trio of Devon Forde, Jahaal Greaves and Runnel Gordon in what is expected to be a free flowing affair.
