A teenage girl is missing and feared drowned after she jumped out of a moving speed boat, which was travelling along the Berbice River yesterday morning.
Police did not identify the child but said that she was a 13-year-old student of St Lust, Berbice River.
According to a press release, the incident occurred at around 9am, when the teen was on her way home in a boat in the Berbice River. “…She is alleged to have jumped overboard and is believed to have drowned,” police said.
Stabroek News was unable to make any contact with the girl’s relatives or residents of the St Lust community. This newspaper was told that the riverain area, which is located in Region Ten, does not have any access to landline telephones or cellphone contact.
Up to press time last evening, there was no information from the police as to whether the girl had been found.
