A post-mortem examination (PME) has found that two-year-old Kimanie Watson, who died under mysterious circumstances, succumbed as a result of haemorrhaging and shock caused by multiple abdominal injuries.
The PME was performed yesterday by government pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh and the male relative who was held by police in connection with the child’s death has been released. However, police say their investigation is ongoing.
“I ain’t know what happen… I ain’t know,” said Watson’s grandmother, Dian Graham yesterday after the PME results were released.
She insisted that her son was innocent and that he was wrongly detained by the police.
She said that since the PME results came out, she and her son have been under attack by villagers because of her statements made in the media. “I can’t take it no more. Everybody mocking me… They want kill me and they saying ‘kill she, kill she mother and go jail. She curse.’”
She said she was fearful that they would kill her and her son. “Is my own… I ain’t know nothing. They gon kill me… I feed them… I feed them,” she said, breaking down in tears.
According to relatives, the toddler collapsed with a sudden bout of diarrhoea and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she died. Police had launched an investigation under suspicion that the child may have been the victim of sexual abuse.
“It’s a sad thing that happen to the child… only them that living in that yard can say what happen,” a neighbour said, adding that he was sitting outside in his yard when he heard a commotion in the Watson’s yard.
